Mobile phones are important to most people in our modern day world.

However, there are some common questions that most phone owners may ask themselves.

My phone has been on for a long time. Should I reboot it every day? Or will that damage the battery?

Let’s take a look at what is the proper way to treat your phone. This may surprise you.

Should I reboot my phone every day?

Most people may think that a mobile phone is similar to a laptop or desktop, and that it should be rebooted or turned off every day.

However, a mobile phone only needs to be turned off once a week to clear off any memory leaks or processes.

Why shouldn’t I turn a phone off more often?

Every time a phone is shut down and rebooted, the phone will read all of the data on the storage disk.

This process causes more read cycles to occur on flash storage, and will require more energy from the battery.

In fact, if you switch off your phone every day, then you are actually reducing the life of your phone.

Why it’s important to reboot your phone (but not too often)

It’s important to restart/reboot your phone once per week, because during the restarting process, the phone will clear out any temporary garbage files and programs.

This means your phone’s speed will increase after the restart occurs. However, the benefits only occur after about 1 week of usage.

Why does your battery drain quickly?

1) Screen Brightness is too high

One of the biggest reasons why a phone will need to be charged frequently is the screen. Simply put, the screen consumes a high amount of battery, especially when on a high brightness level.

To prevent this, either turn down the phone’s brightness, or turn on “automatic brightness adjustment”,

2) Background Applications

Applications running in the background are one of the main causes of battery consumption. Instead of simply minimizing or tapping out of the app, users should close down the app entirely.

3) Notification Bar Feature

A lot of apps will push notifications to your home screen by the Notification Bar. This feature is known to consume battery power, and it’s recommended to turn it off for any non-essential apps.

4) WIFI Always On

It’s recommended to only open your WIFI when necessary. If you constantly leave your WIFI on, then it will continue to broadcast and search for nearby networks. In turn, this will consume a lot of power.

Additionally, if you are traveling with your WIFI open, the WIFI will connect and disconnect to many different open hotspots, which will consume a lot of power.
